If you are requiring a business attorney to represent you in a legal matter other than setting up your business, ask if they have court or trial experience. Many business attorneys do not handle litigation and therefore are not the business attorney that you require.

Since most business law issues are resolved through alternative dispute resolution processes such as negotiation, mediation or arbitration, ask about your attorney's experience with these systems. Do they have specific training in negotiation or mediation?

As a businessperson, it's in your best interests to have some knowledge of the general outline of business law on the state and federal level. While this doesn't mean you need to get a degree in business, it can't hurt to take a few general classes at the local community college.
